DAY 291: Kitty Tesla

Not much to say here. Just wanted to post this pic. Love it!

It's from a company here in Vancouver.

DAY 281: Investment Insanity

I'm just feeling incredibly happy, and nervous at the same time. $TSLA stock officially hit record highs... AGAIN! The company is now worth over $100 billion and is the most valuable car company in the history of America.

I remember back in 2016, I just had this feeling I had to figure out how to buy stocks so I could grab some Tesla stock. I even remember saying out loud at work one day, "This weekend, I'm going to sit down and figure out how to do it!" Well it still took me weeks after that before I finally bought my first stock. But I'm so glad I managed to buy them just before the Model 3 reveal. After the reveal, I KNEW I had made the right decision.

Since then, I've been "learning on the job" what it's like to follow a super volatile stock. Tesla never stands still. It's just a mayhem of FUD, joy, concern, optimism, and pure uncertainty. For over 3 years, I've held this stock and watched it bounce up and down. I even grabbed some more when the price dropped back to my original buying price. I thought I was being smart.  Turns out, I was brilliant!!

In the past 3 weeks, my Tesla stock price is approaching triple my original buy price. Think of that... THREE HUNDRED PERCENT! I mean, talk about beginner's luck. Then again, I just knew somehow this was the next big one.

I mean just look at it!! (click on it to expand). It just keeps going up!

The thing is, a long time ago, I knew I had put my TSLA stock in the wrong account. Well, "wrong" isn't the best word, but it was in my RRSP account. That meant eventually I would get fully taxed on it. And here in Canada, taxes are high.

Alternatively, if it was in my TFSA account, there would be ZERO tax. Back when my stock was just wandering back and forth between $260 and $300, I really should have switched it. But now that it's skyrocketing, I thought... do it now before it gets worse. Well, I sold off all the profits of my Tesla stock, and left my original investment there for now. Since then, the price has jumped over $100 and it's been painful to watch every day. Tomorrow, it may jump up even more.

I never thought I would be in a situation where I would be rooting for Tesla stock to DROP! I'm in the middle of transferring my Canadian funds over to US funds (takes about a week, thanks to the unfortunately process of Norbit's Gambit) . I'm hoping that Q1 financials is soft, like it normally is. But with the delivery of Model Y and the opening of the China Gigafactory, I'm thinking that's not going to happen.

So at this point, I'm just hoping that the stock will drop back to $470 when I sold it, so I can buy my stocks back and not skip a beat. What's the chances? We shall see.

In the meantime, my remaining stocks are soaring.

It's been an interesting journey having a stock portfolio, and the process of separating emotions from money is no better tested that when this kind of thing happens. I believe I'll be a stronger emotional person by going through this.

For all my $TSLA stock holding friends... congratulations to us!
